where to get a free or cheap 1st aid kit for self harmer's?
i am a 15 year old and have limited funds to buy 1st aid stuff. i cut my self regularly. i know its bad so don't tell me to quit.the 1st aid stuff i using now is just toilet paper.
hi, i used to self harm severely. one day i was having my infected wounds sorted out by the practise nurse at my doctors surgery. he was very kind and grabbed loads of supplies and put them in my ruck sack. i had saline to wash the wounds, paper stitches, dressings, swabs, bandages pretty much all i needed. he told me that i had to keep my gear clean like a heroin addict (my razor blades) and told me i could go back to him anytime i needed but it made sense that i also had sterile first aid stuff at home.
if you live in the uk you can get dressing and bandages for pennies in Wilkinson's, home bargains, 99p store and the poundland. pharmacies also sell individual mepore dressings, the shiny sterile dressings. they keep them behind the pharmacy and are about 25p each.
the most important thing to do is keep the wounds clean. you can bathe them with boiled water and table salt left to cool until it is warm. pour over or use cotton wool. if you go to home bargains you can get tea tree oil for less than a pound or just over a pound inWilkinson's (for some reason they put it in with the bath sponges, loofahs and shower caps). you only need a couple of drops in cooled boiled water and it kills all bacteria, viruses and fungi. you do need to dress the wounds to keep them clean.
you can also go to any nhs walk in centre, minor injuries unit or a&e. best of luck. it does get better, A x

preventative measure are the best thing you can do. keep a safe environment. keep some blood stop powder on hand. no teflon cookware. no harsh cleaning chemicals, birds have uber sensitive respiratory systems.
