Ford Ranger wouldn't start?
Recently my 93 Ford Ranger pickup failed to start. Tried jumping and pecking starter. Had it towed to a garage. Turned out to be a broken wire at the starter. I was charged $71.00 for the tow, $34.00 for a dignostic, $34.00 for 1/2 hour labor, and $4.00 for two new terminals on the starter. While loading the truck onto the rollback, the emergency brake was not releasing. It has done this before I told the driver not to worry about the parking brake sticking. When the auto shop called they told me I needed new rear brakes. They also tried to charge me with taking the rear differential cover off and putting in new fluid they said it was low. I had new drums, pads and hardware kit put on the truck less than 30,000 miles ago. They tried charging $60.00 for work on the rear differential. Does this sound like a rip-off to anyone or is this normal practice?
I refused to pay for $60.00 for work on the differential. My total bill was about $150.00
Well really just to have a tow truck hook up any vehicle its like 35.00 to 45.00 bucks , a diagnostic trouble shooting fee is sometimes mentioned separately or they simply add the time it took to find the problem and the time to repair it together in the hourly fees.
To me if a vehicles starting problem was very easy to find then maybe no trouble shooting fees are needed especially if the job didn't take much time but really all in all to me sounds like you got charged an average hrs labour fee and getting any vehicles starting problem fixed for an hrs labour fee isn't bad.
Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I don't understand exactly why they'd be working on the rear end of vehicle unless something lead them to detect that a problem with the ear differentials fluid level.
I don't blame you for not paying that extra fee bec you didn't ask them to repair that at all just the starting problem I bet.If as part of the they had to tinker or unseized or got the emergency brake to disenge then really you got a fair deal.

Im in the process of becoming a teacher and i believe you did the right thing… think about it if you did allow him to pee in a cup or something else you could of had the chance to have a lawsuit against you if you "saw him" if you know what i mean. You did the best you could.
