I will always carry 2 quarts and be looking for 2 or more quarts of water to carry at all times. Shelter then water is more important than food. Water is good weight. You can be in a spot where you will not have access for days. A straw type filter or rubber hose can suck water from puddles and small tight places. Take a look at silnylon hammocks, such as DD Hammocks, Jungle Hammocks, ENO etc. One can then bed down in impossible places. A G.I. bivy sack is also good
