Hanging Pictures in "Earthquake Country"?
I live in Southern California and survived the '94 Northridge quake. Since then I haven't hung any pictures on my walls for fear that they will fall off, the glass will break, and someone will get hurt trying to get out of the house. Other than replacing all the glass with plexiglass is there a safe way to hang frames with glass in them? I would like to hang family pictures down my hallway but don't want anyone to get injured should there be an earthquake.
I like to use the plastic screw reinforcements in the walls to help with any weight from the frames/glass-it keeps the sheet rock from crumbling, but not needed if you hit a stud.
Then I use the picture hanger hooks. They often come packaged with the screws that fit into the hooks for different sizes that you need. The hooks hold on the frames so they don't just slip or bounce off. They have to be lifted off the wall.
