Where do 68W's combat medics go for basic training?
Do they go to a specific training base?
How common is it for a 68W to go on to additional training after AIT at Ft. Sam Houston?
If you are female, you will go to Fort Jackson or Fort Leonardwood. Otherwise, you can go to any of the five sites including Fort Benning, Fort Sill, and Fort Knox, it all depends on when you ship and what classes are needing to be filled. The system recruiters use for checking ship dates also tells you what basic training location you will go to if you choose that date. So, in a way, you can pick where you want to go. It does happen that you will be sent somewhere else when you arrive, eg., you ship to Fort Benning, and they end up sending you to Fort Jackson, but it is rare.
You WILL NOT receive any additional training at Ft. Sam after the completion of AIT unless it is in your contract, or your unit sends you back. Don't count on the second one happening. I had the highest GPA in my class at AIT and I could not get into the M6 program. So if you want to do it, get it in your contract.
