If you were tight on money, what items would you stock up on in the event of a disaster?
Taking into consideration the current economic times and the great possibility of the greatest depression since 1929, what items would you prioritize if you were strapped for cash, living from paycheck to paycheck:
>Firearm and ammo
>Storable food (6 to 12 mo. supply)
>Gold and/or silver coins (replacement money when the Dollar is useless)
>Seeds to plant your own garden
Clarification: must select at two of the listed items and which one you would prioritize of the other.
with little money I'd go splurging at my local army surplus store:
1 firearm and ammo
2 water dilution pills (makes up to 30 gallons)
3 fire starting device (as there will be no electricity)
4 storable and nonperishable food ( I would choose MRE's )and salt to preserve the food and multivitamins to continue to give you the nourishment your body needs in times of no food.
5 windup rechargeable flashlight and radio
6 lightweight yet durable and multiuse dishes and pans
7 sleeping bag that can endure very cold weather
8 notepad and pencil (as there will be no other form of communication)and it's good as a fire starter as well.
9 a string saw (a saw that's nothing but a wire with blades attatched to a ring on each end...it can be rolled up and placed in a pocket but can cut down a whole tree).
10 a fishing stringer (you're going to need to be able to transport a lot of food at one time)
11 waterproof matches
12 an up to date first aid kit
13 training manual on how to clean any type of game
many other things, but that's good enough for a start....

What helped you survive a crisis or natural disaster?
I'm looking for folks who either had emergency supplies on hand or had to make do with what they had around them to survive after an unexpected event. Do you wish you had more emergency supplies in retrospect?
All I needed was my machismo.
