disaster survival kits

What would you include in a "disaster survival" backpack?
Scenario:
Post-apocalyptic collapse of society ... you need to get out of your house NOW! As you run out the door (air-raid sirens blaring, bombs falling from the sky, etc) you grab a backpack with the essentials you might need to survive the chaos.
What would you put in the backpack?
Here's MY list (so far) ...
* Revolver with bullets (point-and-shoot, don't have to remember to cock it)
* Leatherman tool
* High-powered mag-lite (60 lumens at least)
* Magnesium fire-starter
* Signal Mirror
* First-Aid kit
* Freeze-dried food (or 1200 calorie food bars)
... am I leaving out something CRUCIAL? Nylon rope or rain ponchos or whatever?
One thing you have listed is kinda dubious... a first aid kit. What would be in that? Useless band-aids and an aspirin?
Let's get detailed with that at least. You need a needle and stainless steel thread and a pack of razor blades to do emergency surgery. You will want some professional grade pain killers and/or morphine.
Nylon cord will be good for making tourniquets as well as many other uses. Often you will just have to make do with materials you find on site, so for making a splint you will want something to cut some wood. A survival shovel that has a built-in saw is good for that, plus you can use it as a weapon or to dig a fox-hole.
You will want a breathing mask so you can filter the air and a vinyl tube to hide and breath underwater. A flashlight and signal mirror is good if you want to be rescued, but it will definitely clue the enemy in as to where you are and they will then ambush you. So you can take it or leave it. Plan to be without power for a while and get a dynamo to recharge your flashlight and cell phone. A signal mirror is good to use to signal your friends to ambush the people with the food. Face it, there will be no rescue. You're not lost in a park, you're surviving the apocalypse. I just hope they get those cell towers fixed. Wouldn't want to be without internet too long or my crops on farmville will wither. One of those silvery plastic survival blankets is good and light weight and can be used as a poncho or for extra warmth, plus it's highly reflective which is good if you want to be seen. But I think in an apocalypse scenario you will want to hide.
I would also have a roll of electric tape or duct tape for use with making traps, binding wounds, or fashioning shelter. You will want a wire coat hanger for jimmying locks and a vinyl tube for siphoning gas out of a car. Urban survival!
Assuming cell phones will be useless, it might be a good idea to have a radio of some kind so you can get instructions from the authorities on how to surrender, where to go to be euthanized, or even the weather report.
As for the magnesium fire-starter, what's wrong with a bic? they're easier to use. Just keep it inside a recycled plastic peanut butter jar to keep it dry. You can put all the small items in there. And then a full jar of peanut butter is great tasting, inexpensive, has a long shelf life, and is packed with calories.
In case of nuclear radiation, you will want some potassium iodide pills. You will want some way to purify water; either a filter straw or some iodine tablets. A stainless steel water bottle already filled with water is good to have. After you drink all the water you can refill it with sewer water and boil water right in your water bottle, assuming you are willing to risk being found from the smoke your fire makes.
You will want to make sure you have your identification with you in case you are detained by the military, you don't want them to mistake you for the enemy, and you at least want them to get your name right on the unmarked grave. Don't forget the most important papers: TP!
It might be worthwhile to include something of value for trade. I don't know if cash would be any better than checks, but silver can be used as an antibiotic and will be valuable for many other reasons as well.
Finally, a packet of seeds that you can use to grow crops and restart civilization from scratch.
