An Italian scientist predicted a major earthquake around L’Aquila weeks before disaster struck the city on Monday, killing dozens of people, but was reported to authorities for spreading panic among the population.

[Surely, these deaths could have been prevented. Why are people who preach the truth silenced by the powers-that-be all too often?]

Dozens? This earthquake killed 290 people!
Yeah, it's true, this scientist foresaw this earthquake but..."who cares if hundreds of people will die? Let's say he's just spreading panic among the population, who cares?!"
Our government. That's it.

Haiti Devastated by Earthquake, DN 1/13/2010 (1/3)

How sad is the China earthquake for parents?

I just read that parents were outside a primary school where 200 children were buried and the authorities had posted a sign for them to look at the morgue for their children - how incredible sad and devestating. It seems so far away and distant to our lives - yet tonight I will pray for those families and children - as a mother myself of four children I cannot imagine how awful it must be for them. I need to be far more grateful for what I have.

I live in Chongqing, China. I am a teacher here. I have not seen first hand the misery and horror of the earthquake, but I have many university students who have lost loved ones. It is now one week since the earthquake and it is not uncommon during a lecture to hear quiet sobs, then crying, and a combined letting of emotions in the classroom.

It is a terrible and unthinkable tragedy. I am from Texas and many times since the earthquake I have wished I wasn't here, but, if the truth be known, I do not want to be anyplace else right now.

Many children have died and more are dying. Mothers, not only in the United States, but all else in the world, hug and kiss your children, be lenient when they do wrong and remember, they are children...they need love, comfort, and made to feel safe in your arms.

Yes, you are so right. On TV, in the newspapers it seems like a world away and distant to the everyday activities of those who are not immediately involved. I cry everytime I see the news, and I yes, I sometimes cry with my students; it seems the only comfort we can find is in the embrace of each other...the classmates and friends.

Pray for us all....
