If there is an earthquake and you live in an apartment, do you stay in or go outside?

We live on the ground floor of an apartment building in a big compound of other buildings. There are around 50 apartment buildings, all of them very tall. If an earthquake occurred, would it be safer to go outside (and take the chance of being smooshed by buildings) or stay inside (and risk being flattened by 11 floors)?
Please do not answer saying to ask authorities or whatever, because we live in China and don't speak Chinese or anything.
Also, PLEASE don't be rude.

There is no question of in or out during earthquake but people can take some safety masseurs.
there is no time for going out of the apartment or any other buildings and nobody knows when an earthquake will come to strike the buildings.
China is the happiest place to live on the earth because of the social society and their friendly cheapest cost of living. try ideas like a iron triangle. flat surface bottom and roof like on top the structure is sufficient to take the load of the collapsing building make your bed inside the triangle plates keep adequate water and food/medicine communicating equipments inside then you will be safe to some extent.

Strong earthquake felt in Guatemala; no damage. Your thoughts?

Mon Jan 18, 12:15 pm ET
GUATEMALA CITY – A strong earthquake has rocked Guatemala and parts of El Salvador, but no there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage in either country.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.0.

The USGS says it hit Monday morning about 60 miles (97 kilometers) southwest of Guatemala City, where it was felt by many residents. There were reports of shaking in the Guatemalan countryside and in El Salvador as well.

Civil protection officials in the two countries says so far there are no reports of injuries or damage, but authorities are still checking.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100118/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_guatemala_earthquake_2

It depends on how populated the immediate area that is affected. If the area is not heavily populated and is scarce in terms of individuals who live in the area, then its likely you won't hear of many reports. The thing about Haiti is there were many more individuals who lived in the region. The population was amongst the millions. So naturally there were more affected but, less population, less injuries. It also depends on where or how isolated the area affected is. If it was in an isolated area, then minimal damage would be found.

Steak 'n Eggs–Earthquake insurance has at least a 15% (of home value) deductible and then covers 70-80% of damage above that. It is only worth the price if your house falls down. Even then, if there is widespread loss, it will only pay until the reserves run out. I'm talking about the California Earthquake Authority policies. I assume there are insurance companies that offer coverage, but I further assume the cost, deductibles and other ifs and wherefores would make such insurance prohibitive. Check with your agent.
