Travelling to Japan - terrified of earthquakes - need advice!?

Hi...I am visiting Japan for the first time next week. I will be staying in Tokyo and Kyoto. I am terrified of a big or "the big" earthquake hitting while I am there. Any suggestions, ideas, tips or insights you could share with me would be extremely appreciated. For example, a good area/place to stay, what to do if an earthquake hits, the risk of a big one hitting while I am there, anything that might help me (info or supplies - for example, I was thinking of bringing a helmet with me to carry in my bag and slip on if a quake hits, that way if debris is falling all around at least my head would be protected). I am very scared, but I am even more excited to visit Japan - it is somewhere I have wanted to go for many years and I don't want to waste this opportunity because of my fear. Thanks for any insight you can share with me!

Wear a helmet at all times (best would be one with a torch attached), never take an elevator, stay away from high buildings and old buildings (they burn faster), always carry a supply of food and water with you for 3 days, make sure your life saving whistle is easy to reach, take a good supply of toilet paper and enjoy your vacation.

We also have earthquake pre-warning system nowadays, they will anoounce the big earthquake 20 seconds before, so you will have enough time to hide somewhere.

PS: That's next week you are going....North Korea will also be launching its missiles towards Japan, so better be prepared for that too.

George "Little Boots earthquake (cracked heel remix)" Bag of Suck Caswell Berry

Do you think the planet needs saving from humans?

"The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles...hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worlwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages...And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet...the planet...the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE!" George Carlin-realist

The planet can and will take care of itself. It is now starting the process with global warming
