I don't know about this particular earth quake but in general they are caused by a sudden the movement of tectonic plates either colliding or slightly sliding over each other. This is from a scientific view.. I dropped humanities a few years ago.

How does an earthquake effect the Atmosphere?


An earthquake effects the atmosphere by creating amounts of debris and dust which will add to the air that we breathe (atmosphere-ish). Earthquakes can also trigger volcanoes which will release tonnes of ashes and other debris into the atmosphere. This can sometimes cause the blocking out of the sun, air pollution and an increased amount of carbon in the air.

    LOL. In the time it took you to type all of this here, you could have written a summary and gone out for coffee!
    Honestly, the first sentence pretty much summarizes the rest of it. Start with that and add a few details if it needs to be longer.
