How do geologist locate the epicenter of an earthquake?

There are seismic stations located about the world and many in the US. The time it takes the seismic waves to arrive at various stations depends upon the makeup of the earth's crust at various locations. The speed of the seismic wave varies through different types of material but by knowing when the waves arrive at different locations, and the rock characteristics involved, the seismologists can calculate, by knowing how long it took the seismic wave to arrive at their station, approximately where the epicenter of the quake was located. In some cases the seismic wave bounces off layers like echoes and this type of think is known from other quakes so that they can pin-point the location very accurately and quickly.

Tè Tremblé: Journey to the Epicenter of the Earthquake 1 of 3

How many detection centers are necessary to pinpoint the location of the epicenter of an earthquake?

Three at least. A cicle is drawn keeping that recording station as center. Two circles can cut at two places on their circumference, whereas three circles definitly cut at a common place, indicating the origin of earthquake place(epicenter).

I think Claudia Barr would be an excellent journalist to fill the anchor chair at NC3. She is a seasoned anchor who knows and is familiar with Memphis. She is a beautiful talented woman. I believe it would be a better choice to hire someone with whom the Mid-South is familiar than a person who viewers would have to adapt and learn allover again. I think Markova Reed would have been an excellent pic also, however she is tied to the morning where NC3 is now number #1. So leaving well- enough along is best. Someone else who would be excellent for the post (if NC3 could woo her back away from her husband and break her loyalty with AN5)…Kim Hindrew!!! But that would create a 10.0 earthquake with the epicenter at 1960 Union Avenue!!!!
