What are your opinions on the 'earthquake lights' phenomenon?

For the uninitiated, earthquake lights are unusual lights that are supposedly seen in the sky before or during an earthquake. Do you think they are genuinely associated with earthquakes, or just a coincidence? It seems they quite often accompany earthquakes, so I'm in two minds about it. What do you think? Any opinions or information would be welcome.

I've seen documentaries about this subject which has been researched by scientists. The explanation was that the pressure on the tectonic plates cause electro static energy and various gases to be released. I think the phenomena is similar to ball lightening.

What was also fascinating is that people have reported having visionary and psychic experiences just before earth quakes occur. The explanation is that a shift in the electromagnetic field of that area caused by the shifting plates causes slight changes in the brains electrical field causing these occurrences.
