earthquake prep

When the crap hits the fan (shtf), how useful is it to have nigh vision equipment?
I live in earthquake country, most experts agree that a major quake will hit the Southern CA/Los Angels area within the next 30 years. Probably a very powerful one, enough to destroy all vital routes in and out of the area. As part of my preps, I'm considering adding night vision monoculars (Big 5 is having a major sale NV monoculars at half price, $170 down from $399).
How useful do you think this would be when the SHTF?
if your worried about earthquakes they probably will not be very helpful, but you never know. When SHTF it could hurt having them.

Always glad to see someone thinking about earthquake preparation. I work at the USGS earthquake office here in Pasadena, and we're always trying to remind people that it's going to happen sooner or later
