Earthquake Survival Kits

The earth was quakin’ my mind was achin’. Well, we didn’t exactly shake all night long, but there were a couple of minor earthquakes that rolled through our little beach community. I’ve never been closer to the epicenter of an earthquake (that I’ve felt), and the initial jolt was definitely more powerful than I’d imagined. Luckily, these little three point nothing quakes don’t really do much but shake the walls and scare the dog for a half second. It does bring back a couple memories though… I am reminded of the earthquake preparedness kits from back in the day, Redeemer Lutheran Elementary School to be exact. Everything we could ever need crammed into a giant gallon-sized ziploc baggie. Ritz crackers, hard candy, can of your favorite shredded fish, water in tear-way foil-looking thin bags, flashlight, can opener, and whatever non-perishables would fit. I’m not sure how long that would have sustained our frail little bodies back then, but it is a good reminder to always be prepared. Time to stock the house with some of…
