earthquake safe homes

Is it safe living in a mobile home in an earthquake area?
OK so I was looking in to buying a mobile home but after the recent 5.6 earthquake we just had here in San Jose, and apparently another one coming from the Hayward fault. Is it really safe to live on houses that have almost no foundation under neath? .
It is arguably less safe to live in a mobile home in an earthquake area than to live in a home that is solidly connected to a substantial foundation. The increased risk comes from the pier system typically used to support mobile homes. Mobile homes can shift relative to their pier system and suffer structural damage that wouldn't be as likely to occur in a solidly-anchored home. To more solidly anchor mobile homes and increase their safety in the event of an earthquake, an earthquake restraint bracing system (ERBS) may be installed.

Moving to san Diego? Not so sure...?
We are possiibly going to be moving to San Diego in the summer and am a bit apprehensive to say the least. I really want a nice home, we are from the midwest so for what it costs to buy a little shack there I can buy a huge gorgeous home here. Is it safe in Chula Vista and Otay Mesa? I dont want to be in a bad area, I want nice schools with white people around me, not a bunch of Mexicans from accross the border...do they really swim over and run accross the border? Is that safe? Im thinking child trafficing and rape...also Im terrified of earthquakes! But I have family there and want to be near them. IM SO CONFUSED! LOL
I have to say that I am always pleasantly surprised at how supportive the people on Yahoo Answers are.
So many people have San Diego's back to me it is pretty amazing.
I came from the whitest city with a population over 100,000 in America. (Livonia Mi.)(we didn't move there for that reason it just happened to be that way) so to me it was strange the first time I had a language barrier or when my son's school looked like the United Nations. But I think my kids are better for the experience.
If you are worried about the quality of schools check out www.greatschools.net
Research the area of SD you want to live in then see how the schools measure up. A school tells you a lot about a neighborhood.
Yes, housing is about 3 times as much. But you can always rent which many many middle class people do. I figure it costs me $30,000 a year more to live here then Mi. (yes, really)
So you may have to change what you define a home. (Is an apartment or condo home???)
Your fears are unfounded. Everyone who comes here comes here to work and they work their butts off. And don't be so hung up on wanting to be around white people.(it does come off as racist) In my kids class we have parents from over 8 different countries and they are all very very driven.
If you want to come to SD. Come. If you hate it then move back.
