earthquake supply

Do you think the Haiti Earthquake rescue and aid distrabution would have been done more effiently by the U.N?
rather then the u.s military who have taken so long and are also hamppering Aid and supply flights into Haiti airport.Surly the U.N would hve done a quicker and more efficient job then the u.s thus saveing many many more lives?
I think it could have been handled more effectively if more responsibility had been given to Aid Organisations such as Goal or Concern....

Wow, lots of good comments! Judy, the idea about velcro under televisions is brilliant. Thanks for all the good tips and stories. Nina, thanks for the reminder about using water from the water heater. Claire, I like your sense of adventure, and the reminder that we don't have to spend a lot of new supplies — just think through how to use camping and other equipment we already have. Susan, I'd be curious to know with what you line your garbage can that holds water – sounds like a great solution, much better than buying bottles, and could be used for flushing. Joy, I appreciate the reminder that some “emergencies” are caused by the flu, and it's great to have extra supplies in case. Jeri, you first mentioned the use of a car kit – great way to make sure you have some supplies, not matter what befalls the house.
