earthquake

When there's a gigantic earthquake, why doesn't the shaking start a cavalcade of earthquakes worldwide?
I mean, the tectonic plates around the world are always under pressure until enough builds to break them loose (thus the earthquake), so why don't huge earthquakes shake things up enough to "help" quakes break loose all over?
I know. Go ahead. Laugh at my simplistic views of plate tectonics and my obvious lack of knowledge thereof. It's OK. I just want to hear what people say.
The answer is pretty simple if you think about it. It's happened before but of course it wasn't world wide. The deeper and more powerful an earthquake is the more likely it is to trigger more earthquakes. One earthquake creating havoc on the world isn't among us. It's in the skies. If for some reason a large astroid struck earth it would most likely do something similar to triggering just about every fault that is ready to be triggered worldwide!

Haiti: 16 days after the earthquake
Approximately when is the Puente Hill earthquake going to happen?
It's been spread around in the news about the great upcoming earthquake in los angeles for the past couple of years. I researched on the internet and found out that the center of the earthquake is the Puente Hill fault, which is exactly where I live. Anyone know about when the earthquake is going to occur?
I hope it does not happen. What I usually do is I check the earthquake map like every other day and I have noticed that we have had a couple of them and I have not felt them at all.
Here is link that will show a map of the earthquakes.

You can make sense of the earthquake graphic if you superimpose it over another graphic from wikipedia, using a simple graphics rendering program – a simple but effective program (freeware, too) called paint.net works really well.
Paste in the earthquake map above. Go to Wikipedia page on mid-atlantic ridge, The graphic you want is near the bottom, right hand side. Right-click copy it and paste it as a second layer, then, with that being your active layer, go the layer dropdown menu, select layer properties, and slide the tranparency slider to the middle. Then use the image edge boxes of the semi-transparent overlay image to shrink and reposition the overlay until it matches the contours of the Iceland earthquake map underneath. Click to fix it in place.
You should now see that the earthquake pattern matches the ridge contours and that many or most of the shakes lie on the edges of the main glaciers, with the exception of the green-starred quakes.
There is a lovely explanation of the confluence of weather patterns that produced the unusual cold and historic snow pattern of the 2009-2010 winter. This pattern also affected Iceland, and so *may* be a contributing factor to the mild earthquake swarm along the southwestern leg of the mid-Atlantic Ridge underlying Iceland.
Likewise, unusual weather accumulations in the upper Western Plains may explain the mild, shallow Yellowstone swarm of 2009-2010.

Hi! I’m Renee from Los Angeles. I’m at work, where I’m paying for the various shows that air on the 2networks I work for, however we keep having little earthquakes today – nothing big but big enough to rattle the building and where we are on the 15th floor, that means the whole building shakes. It’s unnerving. Hopefully tonight I’ll be able to go home and do some sewing to relax!!!
I hear flat earth, the cooling deniers must be active on this blog.
1. Communication (i.e. satallites)
2. Soil with high mineral contents, and deep covering of sediments.
3. spiral
4. fusion
5. focus

Hope this helps!!!
