Little you can do except try to evacuate.
Earthquakes can't be predicted, volcanic eruptions can't be predicted accurately.
At most warning can be given that one is likely to happen in the near future, and not always even that.
Attempts have been made (with very limited success) to divert lava flows around towns, mainly in Italy.
That's as far as you can go in trying to control the damage.
This is nature, there's nothing puny humans are going to do to control it.
