How would all of this cost to go to New Zealand?
Air Plane ticket (Los Angels-Auckland)
Car to rent (prefer a convertible)
House to rent (For two guys and one girl)
Food for a month
Water bill for a month

Tickets, relatively can be anywhere between $1200-1500.
A convertible probably wouldn't be ideal for travel around NZ, only during the Summer which has since passed on, we are now in Autumn. I'd hire a van or something, if you're travelling you can easily pull up to a rest stop for the night or possibly a camping ground/holiday park. Cheap rentals can be found here:
