How can you become an Emergency Medical Technician?
How can you become an Emergency Medical Technician? and can you become an EMT if you only have your G.E.D
The EMT-Basic course usually only lasts for a semester or so (about 3 months - part time studies). I don't think you even need a GED to get into the program, although it depends on which state you live in. EMT's can perform basic medical exams and procedures, administer oxygen, and assist the patient with prescribed medications. It's kind of an entry level position in the emergency medical career ladder.
To become an EMT-Paramedic you usually have to go to school for one to two years, and graduate with either a certificate (one year) or associate's degree (two years). You usually need a GED or high school diploma to get into the program (I only had a GED and had no problem getting accepted). The training is a lot more intense than the Basic course. The paramedic student will learn how to perform intubations, read a cardiac monitor, and administer up to 60 different drugs (depending on the service you work for).
At my service, I make 50% more than a Basic makes. If you are considering making EMS your career, it might be a good idea to go to paramedic school. You get to do more for your patient, and make more money doing it, too!

How to get emergency medical care for non immigrant on tourist visa?
My sister in law from Guatemala is visiting us here in Michigan. She's here legally on a tourist visa. She's come down with a earache, congestion, toothache, and numbness/tingling in her face. We've started her on some over the counter medicine, but am concerned she might have an infection that's more serious. What are our options for getting her emergency medical care and medicine since she doesn't have health insurance? Thanks in advance!
Pay cash; like I do. I don't have medical insurance either. She can bring her checkbook or credit card. I like private practitioners because I can't stand Hospital Emergency Rooms. A first office visit in Los Angeles runs from $75.00 - $150.00 dollars. It's the medications and lab tests that drive up the cost of being ill.
It sounds like she has flu symptons and she could need some dental work. They do not have dentists at the ER. In my opinion te ER is a waste of time unless you are brought in by ambulance. They are designed for life threatening emergencies. They are not to be used as a walk in clinic.

I believe the police were more than a bit careless. In my opinion, their acts were reckless and capricious.
The victim may have been acting strangely earlier in the day, but when the police showed up he was non-responsive and nearly catatonic until he was tazed in the back. He never had a weapon and never presented a deadly threat to the well-armed officers. He needed emergency medical attention, not seven bullets in the chest. The autopsy proved he had no drugs in his system.
William Bergin's DUI arrest one year later has everything to do with his killing of Fouad Kaady. It shows that Bergin is unstable emotionally. It shows that he is being protected by what he himself called the “good old boy” network within Sandy and Clackamas County law enforcement. I do not believe Bergin should be allowed to remain in law enforcement.

No, he went a good ways with the cramp, and it seemed to start small and get worse. Those things happen. I've had a leg cramp in competition, and it isn't fun.
