Radio Incident Command Kit - Emergency Radio Kit

I don’t know what he’s going after, but I’ll take a stab at my concerns.I have worked in IT for some time now, and I can see both sides of the argument.Private Citizen Side: If someone shuts down the internet, many businesses are hurt, crippled or wiped out. Hospitals have equipment that would no longer function, city power systems, rail, lights, emergency response crews crippled, cell use terminated, ect ect. The list goes on. For all that techno-phobes rail and cry about how technology has taken over our lives, the simple truth is that by and large, a respectable percentage of Americans really are incapable of being “disconnected” in their daily lives. That’s just the way it is. A nationwide shutdown of the internet would cripple our nation, in ways beyond counting. “Government” side: The primary use for this would be to disconnect systems that are compromised by attacks, hacker/crackers, botnets, foreign agencies, viruses ect and are a threat to our nations system structure and integrity. Simply put, it is more efficient to take a set of comprised networks “off the grid” rather than allow them to crash our ENTIRE network, something which IS feasibly possible ( I didn’t say likely, so everyone put your tinfoil hats away). But in an increasingly “connected” world, such attacks WILL happen, and more often with time. We need some form of protection against these attacks that is more than purely technological. Even today, some typical advice in case of viruses is to unplug your ethernet cable/disable your wireless until you can clean the virus out. These so called “kill-switches” should be like that, but on a national scale.Making any sense? I can see where there are many issues that need to be discussed and resolved, but this is one issue where closing our eyes, stomping our feet and saying “no government on my internet” is potentially lethal to our chances of minimizing the damage from cyber-criminals.
