What do you think of my homemade emergency kit?
I'm planning to do alot of camping in and around the Algonquin Park area this summer, so I thought it might be a good idea to whip up a survival kit. Here's what's in it:
-It's all contained in a Pelican (watertight) 1020 case with an automatic purge valve
-pack of waterproof matches
-mirror (for signalling and in case the matches run out)
-orange garbage bag (for shelter and signalling)
-tea bag
-sugar, candy, and brown sugar oatmeal (for keeping up blood sugar)
-tinfoil (2 25cmx25cm sheets, folded up)
-whistle
-camp knife with scissors, can opener, etc.
-bandages and sterile pads
-needle and thread
-some duct tape
-I've also meant to put in some lightweight rope, pencil and paper, a book of things such as what's edible and what's not, and a compass
Anything big I forgot??? Any other suggestions???
OK thanks guys! I did end up tossing in a few fishing hooks, some sinkers, and some line and also Ziploc bags and Asprin, but I'm now fresh out of space. Thanks very much!
I would add some mono-filament line and fish hooks. The line can be used for anything from making a trap, tying up shelter or fishing. Plus it is very light weight. (never know when you'll need them) ( this is often included in military survival kits.)
Also throw in a box of steel wool and a flint stone. Great fire starter
for additional shelter or a light weight blanket, throw in a space blanket as well. Light weight, takes little space and will keep you warm.
and absolutely, DO NOT forget the 1st aid kit.

I don’t know Canadian law, but declining a search is your constitutional right in America, even if you’re cited for a moving violation. No matter what a cop says otherwise. American cops are allowed to lie, imply, threaten, and be presumptuous assholes but if you assert your civil rights you still have them. (If they ask you to step out of the car and just casually slide right into the driver’s seat, and you say nothing, you just consented to a search. So lock your door when you get out and don’t consent.)This is a very important point: they _can’t_ force the issue if they want to. That’s why they’re asking (or just being an asshole about it) instead of presenting you with a warrant and instructing you to step aside.
