"Nihon chinbotsu" or "The Sinking of Japan" (2006)

In the aftermath of a major earthquake under Suraga Bay, Misaki (a young girl) and Toshiro (a pilot of a deep sea submarine) are rescued from a ruined city street just as leaking gasoline ignites. Reiko Abe arrives just in time, lowered from a helicopter. Scientists predict that Japan will sink within 40 years, due to subduction of a tectonic plate to the west. However, Dr. Tadokoro, who leads an oceanic scientific team that includes Toshiro, calculates that this will happen far sooner, in only 338.54 days. He presents his findings to Prime Minister Yamamoto who decides to create a new department for impending disaster relief assigning Saoro Takamori to cover the new duties, since of all his ministers she will take it seriously but also bring "heart" to the process. As further earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions devastate Japan, the government pleads with other countries to take refugees.

More Than 100 Injured in Japanese Earthquake

where can i buy an earthquake-proof closet I can get into and survive if the building goes down?

Years ago I heard that the Japanese built such a thing. Anyone knows anything relevant?
Any ideas for alternative ways I could save my life (and my son) from an earthquake that would make the building collapse (my apartment is at the fourth floor - and that's the top floor) are welcome.

If you are on the top floor, the best thing to do would be to research the measures taken in construction of your building and those around you. If proper measures are in place, your building will not go down although it may tilt. If you look at the many buildings involved in the Kobe earthquakes, you will see that in almost all cases, the buildings dropped and crushed the first or first and second floors while the rest of the building remained. It might be good to have a rope/wire ladder rolled up or a rope or wire with sling to get down if the stairs are blocked.
You look at your neighbors to see what will happen if a fire starts - will it spread in the neighborhood or to your building, If so, then a reinforced closet isn't going to help.
A reinforced closet really needs to be built in at the time of construction rather than added because the materials needed for strength are bulky, whether a steel frame or gusseted wood or concrete. Adding those inside an existing closet really cut down the space available. And for practical purposes, you need to add survival rations including water and dried food for several days and warm blankets and rain protection.

The DAX is not alone; global markets have been badly hit this year by Europe’s debt crisis, instability in the Middle East, a Japanese earthquake and tsunami as well as a struggling U.S. economy.
