American Red Cross (ARC): Emergency Preparedness

Why do I need a 72-hr emergency kit?

FEMA, Red Cross and other agencies say it is a good idea, but I wonder how good this idea is, if nothing ever happens where I live, and if a hurricane comes, the weather service tells us way before hand.

The point is to already have the 72-hr emergency kit when the weather service tells you. All those that doesn't have one will then need to go out to get things needed and you might end up waiting in line or going without some of the things. The time you would spend looking for the things for the kit is time you could spend on doing more important things such as finding a safe place to stay or making your home safer.

Is it worth the trouble of making a kit if things rarely happen where you live? You be the judge. If there is a possibility of hurricanes then I'd at least have some things prepared, just in case.

I feel like I may be ignorant, as well. (I don’t watch porn, or follow much about the industry, since … I don’t watch it in the first place.) I agree. I think it’s shitty for the Red Cross mandate to forbid gay men to donate blood, or the FDA to recommend celibacy in order for them to donate sperm, and I think that this assumption/difference of requirements comes across as discriminatory in the same vein.
