Help selecting a day pack/lumbar pack?

I currently own a camelbak but it has very little storage room. I am looking for either a lumbar pack that I can wear with my camelbak (link at the bottom) or a backpack with a hydration system for a few day hikes Ill be doing this summer. I need room for my lunch, (probably a sandwich and a few other food items like trail mix), survival gear (small stuff like water purification tablets and compasses) and ideally extra water. If anyone has any ideas post a link, but I would say I am keeping cost in mind heavily and wouldnt like to spend a whole lot.

I have always thought that buying a special piece of gear (at least spending much on it) is a bit wasteful. Why not just a student backpack? They are reasonably prices, readily available, the size is perfect, they aren't heavy, they are durable, and most have a place for an iPod or a hydration tube to poke through. If not, they all have twin zippers, so you organize it how you want with the straw coming out between them, then lock it in place with two safety pins.

This is a situation where ordinary stuff is easy to make work for you and specialized hiking and camping gear is overkill in my opinion.

Jansport makes the classic student bookbag, and there are hundreds of similar models in a very standard size. If you can wait until back to school sales, you will save some money but they aren't very much anyway. You may even have one or can find one second hand.

Good question, thanks for pushing me to clarify. BPA (Bisphenol A) is a compound that makes plastic flexible. The lining of some cans is made of plastic, but glass jars would not have any BPA, nor anything that I've ever heard of that could possibly leach into your food. Glass is a super safe choice for food storage! (We'll be tackling food storage containers in about a month for some more in-depth coverage of the issue and practical ideas for avoiding plastics.)

This is one of the reports which has been whispered about for years. (It's still going on.) Anyone who said anything out loud disappeared. The people who have spoken out against this and have been heard are sci-fi writers, novelists and many in the media. The public needs to stop being afraid. Nothing more.
